I took the image for this painting while hiking Kuli'ou'ou Valley Trail on East O'ahu with my husband and dog. I love the drama of this fallen tree gracefully arcing over the trail, and the rich earthy colors of the bark and foliage. I printed the image on black-and-white paper, hand-painted it with oils, and then detailed the branches and rocks with colored pencils.
