About the Artist, Toni Parras

Welcome to Hibiscus Studio, where my mission is to bring joy and comfort to people through the power of art—in my case, hand-painted black-and-white photography. Each piece begins as a black-and-white image, which I print on various art and watercolor papers, or birch and maple wood panels, then hand-paint using oil paints, chalks, pastels, watercolors, acrylic dyes and pencils.

My love for the ocean led me to work in nature conservation, which led me to photograph flowers, seascapes and landscapes. Through my art, I aim to spark the same sense of wonder and connection that first drew me to nature, and invite viewers to pause, reflect and reconnect. More recently, my work with the Red Cross and Alliance of Therapy Dogs has led me to paint adorable pet portraits.

I hope my art using this special technique captures your heart and mind as it has done mine.

Toni has worked as a professional writer and photographer with a focus on nature, arts and culture. About the Work

I print black-and-white images on various art papers or wood panel and then hand-paint them with oils, watercolors, pastels and/or dyes. These are not digitally colored. Many hours go into the process to build up layers of color for depth and then filling in the fine details.

These short videos show how I hand-paint various black-and-white photos. Do you have a favorite landscape, pet or loved one you want a custom painted portrait of? If so, contact me below, or order here.

Please contact me if you are interested in a piece, have any questions, or just want to say Hi! Special sizes, commissions, and select originals available upon request.
