My daughter and I met this small, impossibly adorable stray cat while taking in the view atop the old village wall in Perugia, Italy. This clean little unexpected beauty sat with us for a while, calm and curious, her bright green eyes catching the afternoon light. The moment was too lovely to forget, and I knew I was going to paint her.
Breaking from my usual oil and watercolor paints, I hand-colored this entirely with highly-pigmented pan pastels. I wanted to bring out the texture of her fur and the luminous green of her eyes, as well as the startling colors of the pavement. The result is an intimate, bold colored portrait that relives the feeling of that hillside breeze and the quiet magic of an otherwise everyday moment.
This one-of-a-kind signed 8×10” original is matted in 11×14” acid-free archival matboard and ready to frame. Custom hand‑painted portraits are available by request.
