I took the image for this painting years ago when I was working on my Master’s in marine science. I was studying fishing communities on a remote island and was captivated by the simple and rustic lifestyle, embodied in this scene. This image was shot on black-and-white celluloid film, then printed on special photo paper in my darkroom, then painted with photo oils and pencils. It remains one of my favorites for the memories it evokes.
