Meet Pesto, an elegant Italian Greyhound whose long lines and poised expression instantly reminded me of the Art Deco style I fell in love with years ago. While working as an art director on a low-budget film in South Beach, Florida, the production designer introduced me to the works of Tamara de Lempicka. We were painting a mural based on her work in a hotel lobby we were using as a movie set.
This picture of Pesto felt like it belonged in that world — geometric shapes, quietly dramatic, sleek and glamorous. I channeled that stylistic influence into this painting, using a palette that nods to the era’s elegance. His slender form and expressive face carry the spirit of the style effortlessly.
Painted with watercolors and Pan Pastels, this one-of-a-kind signed original is matted in an 11×14 acid-free archival matboard, ready to frame.
